Clinical Services

The SACCADE™ intervention model

Evaluations

Needs assessment

Each autistic person has a unique profile and distinct needs. To benefit from follow-up services at the clinic, it’s essential to carry out an assessment of the needs of the autistic individual under 18 years old. Needs assessment may be recommended for adults, but not systematically. The evaluation is done according to the SACCADE™ model.

Objectives

Situate the autistic person in their autistic development in order to establish a personalized intervention plan and then direct them to the right services.

Target clientele

Any autistic person, regardless of their age.

The evaluation procedure

  • Three meetings are generally necessary.
  • The assessment is done through a semi-structured interview and direct observations or video footage.
  • At the end of the evaluation procedure, the clinic shares a summary that includes general intervention targets and recommendations.

Please note: Evaluations can be conducted by videoconference; however, it will still be necessary to provide specific videos to the team.

Diagnostic assessment

Do you have questions about how your child, a loved one, or even you might function? If so, it’s critical to carry out a complete diagnostic evaluation conducted by a multidisciplinary team specialized in autistic functioning to help you get some accurate answers. The services we offer at our clinic comply with the guidelines of the Order of psychologists of Québec, and our professionals are accredited to use standardized diagnostic and intervention tools.

Objectives

Our objectives are to accurately determine whether someone’s profile corresponds to an autistic thinking structure or not (a differential diagnosis). A better understanding of how an individual works allows us to develop recommendations that will facilitate their everyday life.

Target clientele

Anyone who believes they may be autistic, regardless of their age.

The evaluation procedure

  • The evaluation time may vary depending on someone’s profile and the complexity of their behaviors. In general, five meetings are necessary.
  • A series of clinical tests will be used (standardized tools, questionnaires, observations, clinical discussions, etc.).
  • A written report, containing clinical impressions and recommendations, will be produced at the end of the evaluation process.

Neuropsychological assessment

It can be beneficial to understand an autistic person’s learning profile and intellectual functioning to guide them in school or via other interventions. This assessment can be carried out when there are academic challenges or when differential or associated diagnoses are suspected.

Objectives

Establish a cognitive and psychological profile of the autistic person using standardized tests (assessment of memory, attention, intellectual performance, executive functions, learning, etc.). Develop recommendations specific to each person to improve their functioning in the different spheres of their lives.

Target clientele

Any autistic person, regardless of their age.

The evaluation procedure

  • The assessment time varies according to the reason for consultation and the collaboration of the autistic person. In total, between three to seven meetings may be necessary.
  • A series of standardized clinical tests, informal tasks, and semi-structured interviews are used.
  • A written report, containing clinical impressions and recommendations, will be produced at the end of the evaluation process.

Comprehensive evaluation of autistic development according to the SACCADE™ model (the SACCADE™ report)

Each autistic person has a unique profile and distinct needs. In some contexts, it is necessary to detail in depth the autistic manifestations to better understand the complex profiles. This comprehensive assessment is done according to the SACCADE™ model. It can also provide access to the clinic’s services later but is not required. To access services, the needs assessment is sufficient.

In order to fully benefit from this report, it is strongly recommended that parents be familiar with the SACCADE™ intervention model. To better understand and apply the recommendations that will result from this evaluation, it is desirable to have followed SACCADE™ workshops.

Objectives

To accurately situate the autistic person in their autistic development in order to provide or improve upon the understanding of their functioning.

Target clientele

Any autistic person, regardless of their age.

The evaluation procedure

  • The evaluation time may vary depending on the profile of the individual and the complexity of the behaviors they present. Between four to six meetings may be necessary.
  • The evaluation is conducted with semi-structured interviews, direct observations or video footage, and discussions with those involved.
  • A written report, containing clinical impressions, intervention targets, and personalized recommendations, will be produced at the end of the evaluation process.
